On Grannies, Growing Up, and Guns N' Roses
Falling in Love with Jo Carson and Bob Dylan: A Meter Cute Interview with Kari Gunter-Seymour
I started the Meter Cute Interviews back in November of 2023, but didn’t begin doing the writing prompts until February 2024. I’ve invited some friends to provide prompts based on those earlier interviews! They’ll be posted peridioically in the middle of a week as a little bonus post for you all! If you haven’t watched my interview with Ohio Poet Laureate Kari Gunter-Seymour yet, I highly recommend you do, especially if you come from Appalachian roots (or like Guns N’ Roses).
Kari has written an amazing prompt to go along with her interview. I hope you all enjoy it! Sometimes the Past Can Break Us
1) Free-write about the following questions:
Where do you feel shut down?
Where are you currently finding sanctuary?
What do you need to know?
What is the world asking from you?
What have you lost? (list)
How do we begin to see what is possible?
2) Make a list of things, despite loss, your find worthy or beautiful.
3) Answer these:
TODAY I AM ……
-what color
-taste
-song
-I hear – what --from where?
4) Write about a weather event.
5) Think of an object that makes its way into your life regularly, make a list of 8 attributes. (use senses) Color, texture, shape, smell, sound, taste. How is it used? Ask the object – what do you have to teach me?
6) NOW: Write a praise song /OR/ Write about how you might be able to get to a point that you can see the beauty in yourself and where you come from.
Look at that, you’ve got a draft of something new here in the middle of National Poetry Month! Thanks for letting us stop by!
